Fillings and Tooth Decay Santa Pola
Dental restorations are divided into:
– Fillings (popularly, ‘fillings’) made with different materials and procedures, in which the materials are placed in the tooth in a soft state and hardened and shaped in the mouth; they can be made of nano-hybrid composite resin with porcelain particles (or ‘composite’ (an aesthetic material) or of some kind of cement (mainly glass ionomer);
– Inlays, small rigid pieces (porcelain or composite resin) that fill and replace missing parts of a tooth.
They are made to measure and fixed to the tooth, cemented to the remaining dental tissues; they are classified as inlays, onlays and overlays, depending on their location and extent.
Conservative dentistry works deteriorate over time due to the continuous forces they withstand.
It is therefore advisable to carry out periodic check-ups to detect any damage that may occur (small fractures and detachments, fissures, etc). These periodic check-ups should not be more than one year apart (unless specified by the professional), and whenever there is any discomfort or doubt about the treatment. Composite fillings have an average duration of five to seven years, depending on their extension and situation. Gold or ceramic inlays may have greater longevity, but they are not eternal either.
